So I’ve been the “on call” resource for Windows servers this past week. Basically, if an alarm is triggered on any of the 1,500+ servers in the US, I get called to fix it.

The week, was fairly quite… just 2 calls on Monday and that was it.

well… apparently everything waited to alarm the weekend! … in the wee hours of the morning!

Let’s see:
2:00 AM – Saturday morning – server running out of drive space.
4:30 AM – Saturday morning – just as I’m starting to fall back asleep from the first call, another space issue.
4:30 PM – Saturday afternoon – LA office need me to turn off a server for a planned power outage.
3:30 AM – Sunday morning – another friggin’ drive space alarm.
Now, it would have been nice if the LA office notified me beforehand…. so I could have been home and not at the grocery store to turn their servers off.

In all, I can’t complain at all…. everything I was called on could have been fixed from home. There have been many times where I had to go to our Data Center to completely rebuild servers because some crashed… or in one case… an office caught on fire in the midwest and I had to recover their data to Tampa server.

So I sit here, my work laptop ready to awaken to whatever I may be called on next.
